Abstract:

The course will initially show the most important developments in the internationalisation of education. It will also address key questions surrounding the tasks and functions of primary schools and primary school teacher training in international comparison. Each description will be accompanied by information on the historical and cultural context of each country.

Gliederung:

The seminar consists of 6 learning modules that explore the subject of Primary Education across Europe from a variety of perspectives:
Educational Systems in Europe
Teaching and Learning in Primary Education in Europe
Assessment in Primary Education in Europe
All-day School in Primary Education in Europe
Inclusive Education in Primary Education in Europe
Mobility and Internationalisation

Detaillierter Inhalt:

Educational Systems in Europe
The module introduces you to the variety of European education systems, as well as to the structure and content of the EU-funded information portal Eurydice, which provides information on how education is organised throughout Europe. The school systems in selected countries are presented using a number of distinctions and overviews.

Teaching and Learning in Primary Education in Europe
The first step in this module is to provide you with an overview of the various learning theories. Once you have completed this step, you will be familiar with practical examples of learning forms that are used at primary level. You will also be instructed in how learning works at German primary schools, as well as in the benefits of the student assessment programmes TIMMS and PIRLS/IGLU.

Assessment in Primary Education in Europe
This module initially touches on general aspects of performance, before progressing to performance as it relates to education and schools. After an introduction to the benefits and drawbacks of numerical grading, you will then be introduced to various forms of performance assessment that should be considered as alternatives to the traditional grading system. The module finally explores the issue of "performance at German primary schools".

All-day school in Primary Education in Europe
This module will introduce you to the historical development of all-day schools in a European comparison. You will encounter models and characteristics of all-day schools in Europe, as well as what led to their emergence.
Moreover, you will learn about the forms, models and strategies of all-day schools in Germany and acquire insight into the most important empirical findings of the StEG Study.

Inclusive Education in Primary Education in Europe
This module will demonstrate why the issue of inclusion is currently so topical, why it is debated so controversially in sections of society, and what sets inclusion apart from integration, segregation and exclusion. You will also receive information on how far inclusion has progressed in Europe and on factors that can contribute to its success.

Mobility and Internationalisation
This module deals with mobility and internationalisation programmes and initiatives across Europe for primary school (pupils, teachers) and university (students and lecturers).
