Abstract:

Welcome to the updated version of Technical Writing for Scientists and Engineers. We have worked hard to bring you new videos, exercises and other interactives to make learning how to write easier. In this course, students learn how to express and organize their ideas and facts through written text in order to create documents.

Besides practising with interactive online course content, students will also complete writing assignments and receive feedback on their written assignments. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to write at the CEFR B1 level.
If you plan to study or work outside of Germany, come in frequent contact with English, or you just like the language, then this course is for you

Detaillierter Inhalt:

Topic 1: The Writing Process: The focus of this module is the writing process (i.e. prewriting, outlining, drafting, revising and editing).

Topic 2: Representing Data: The focus of this module is the formation of new words through prefixes and suffixes. Describing tables, graphs and charts as well as text are also on the agenda. Structure and etiquette of business letters, emails and the internet.

Topic 3: Correspondance: The focus of this module is to reduce common mistakes made when writing formal letters/emails and to improve online etiquette.

Topic 4: Writing Instructions: The focus of this module is writing clear instructions and procedures.

Topic 5: Lab and Research Reports: The focus of this module is to introduce the basic elements of a good lab report.

At the end of each book, there is a module revision test which has been designed to round out each topic and encourage the students to produce that which was taught. Because only module quizzes count towards your final grade, you can repeat the practise exercises as much as you like without fear of lowering your overall grade.

Guidelines and helpful explanations of the topics are presented along the way as well as exercises which serve as a means for you to implement the language and grammar you have studied and mastered as you work your way through the course and material. The 'Did You Know' book is there to be fun and to expand your knowledge with interesting facts and stories.
The modules in this course are designed so that each chapter (or book, as it is called on the moodle platform) and each exercise can be done individually. So, repeat that which is necessary for you. And, that's he beauty of this online course. You can go back and have a second look at what you have covered.
By all means, repeat the exercises so that you become fluent with what you have learned so that it becomes a part of you.
