Abstract:

The importance of geographic information systems (GIS) has continued to grow in recent years: From the ubiquity of route planning, GPS-supported guidance systems, the growing possibilities of geomarketing, tourism planning or local government to the latest applications of augmented reality - the technical linking of information and space is associated with a wide range of options. This course offers an introduction to the world of geoinformation systems and geoinformatics. Using various application examples and an introduction to the basic concepts, you will be familiarised step by step with how geoinformation systems work.

Outline

The introductory course (3 ECTS) is divided into 7 learning units that build on each other to explain the basic functions and areas of application of GIS. The certificate is obtained via a final map assignment. In-depth (5 ECTS) elective modules can be taken on this basis according to individual interest. The final assignment also offers the option of deepening the basic knowledge acquired.
