Abstract:

The course "Strategy, Organization and Leadership" provides participants with fundamental knowledge in key areas of corporate management. The focus is on how organizations can be strategically positioned, structured, and led in order to succeed in the long term.

The course is divided into four modules. It begins with the normative foundations of corporate management, including corporate goals, corporate constitution, and corporate culture. Building on this, the second module addresses strategy and strategy design at the corporate and business-unit level. The third module centers on organization and organizational design, in particular the tasks and objectives of organizations, organizational structures, and process organization. The fourth module is devoted to leadership and human resources, covering motivation theories, personnel management, leadership theories, and current developments such as New Work.

Participants work through the content independently and flexibly in terms of time. Each chapter follows a consistent structure comprising learning objectives, lecture videos, supplementary materials, summaries, and optional review questions to check individual learning progress. In addition, online forums are available to clarify questions and encourage exchange among students. An online exam preparation session is offered ahead of the final assessment.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• understand and critically reflect on the normative foundations of corporate management, including corporate goals, corporate governance, and corporate culture, and explain how they shape responsible strategic and operational decision-making,
• apply portfolio tools, diversification strategies, and competitive strategy frameworks to analyze and design strategy at both the corporate and business-unit level,
• analyze and compare functional, divisional, and matrix organizational structures as well as process organization approaches and evaluate their fit to different strategic and operational contexts,
• apply motivation and leadership theories to real-world challenges,
• develop well-founded recommendations that integrate strategic, organizational, and leadership perspectives to address complex corporate management problems, including emerging trends such as New Work.
